Job Description:

Seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join the Avionics & Low Voltage Electrical Systems team!  The Electrical Engineer designs and substantiates aircraft electrical systems, system components and related airframe DC electric systems across the entire life cycle of design and development.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design aircraft DC bus architecture, and manage components related to the protection, distribution and control of the electrical system.
  • Responsible for designing an aircraft power distribution system to company, and 14 CFR Part 23 requirements.
  • Compose electrical schematic/wiring diagram, wire harness design, and wire harness installation drawings.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of an avionics systems integration test bench.
  • Team effort.  You will work alongside mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, interior design, flight test, and maintenance groups to ensure the wire harness design integrates seamlessly within the entire aircraft system.
  • Responsible for completing tasks according to engineering development schedule.
  • Read/review vendor installation documents and guarantee all instructions are incorporated correctly during installation.
  • Support program reviews to ensure that all aspects of the product and program lifecycle have been accounted for.
  • Assist with prototype construction, validation testing, and ground & flight tests.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A BS Degree in Electrical, Systems, or a related engineering field and relevant experience in applying electrical engineering principles to complex Aircraft or Aerospace systems.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of aircraft electrical design and/or liaison experience.
  • General understanding of FAA certification under FAR23, FAR25, or FAR27.
  • Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) experience - calculation and report generation.
  • Experience with designing systems requiring environmental qualification (eg RTCA DO-160).
  • 2D wiring diagram/schematic experience preferably with Mentor Graphics, Zuken, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar tool.
  • Knowledge of wiring diagram and cable assembly drawing preparation and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of electrical design for aircraft avionics, electrical systems and components.
  • An understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals in both analog and digital electronics.
  • Understanding of wiring/cabling/connector materials, electrical loads, and familiarity with SAE-AS-50881.
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office applications (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc)
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills


Desired Qualifications:

  • An interest and desire to innovate in a highly collaborative environment.
  • A real plus if you are a pilot or are training to be one.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with RF test equipment (i.e. Network analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.) for the development of new technology.
  • Background in aviation standards, processes and practices.
  • Experience with operation and/or maintenance of small aircraft.
  • Technical background in, avionics systems or software development
  • Familiarity collaborating with FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER's).
