Job Description:

Seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer to join the Avionics & Low Voltage Electrical Systems team!  The Avionics Systems Engineer designs and substantiates aircraft avionics systems, system components and related airframe DC electric systems across the entire life cycle of design and development.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage avionics system components related to the development of new aircraft including the development of new hardware where required.
  • Responsible for configuring flight deck avionics as well as selecting remote mounted equipment to meet both company, and 14 CFR Part 23 requirements.
  • Select aircraft systems, cabling and sensors (antennas, pressure sensors, etc) and plan for their proper installation.
  • Compose electrical schematic/wiring diagram, wire harness design, and wire harness installation drawings.
  • Manage the development and documentation of an avionics systems integration test bench.
  • Team effort. You will work alongside mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, flight test, and maintenance groups to ensure the avionics layout and wire harness design integrates seamlessly within the entire aircraft system.
  • Responsible for completing tasks according to engineering development schedule.
  • Review avionics installation manuals and be able to incorporate installation requirements, as well as configure software correctly.
  • Support program reviews to ensure that all aspects of the product and program lifecycle have been accounted for.
  • Assist with prototype construction, validation testing, and ground & flight tests.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A BS Degree (or equivalent experience) in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical or a related field and relevant experience in applying systems engineering principles to complex aerospace and electrical systems
  • Minimum of 5+ years avionics and/or systems engineering experience. Preferably aircraft/aerospace/rotorcraft.
  • General understanding of FAA certification under FAR23, FAR25, or FAR27.
  • Demonstrated experience designing equipment and/or cabling for established aerospace data network protocols, eg ARINC 429, RS-232, Ethernet, CAN BUS, MIL-STD-1553, etc.
  • 2D wiring diagram/schematic experience preferably with Mentor Graphics, Zuken, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar tool. Transitional training to our tools will be provided.
  • Knowledge of some 3D Computer Aided Design Program such as NX (preferred), CATIA, SolidWorks, Inventor.  Transitional training to our tools will be provided.
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office applications (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc)
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • An interest and desire to innovate in a highly collaborative environment.
  • A real plus if you are a pilot or are training to be one.
  • Some experience in the definition or creation of Analog to Digital conversion circuits.
  • Experience in design, operation and maintenance of small aircraft.
  • Technical background in electrical circuit design or software development.
  • Experience with FAA Certification requirements, testing and report writing.
  • General understanding of wireless communication protocols and cloud computing. (Bluetooth, 802.11 wifi)
  • Setup and programming of test equipment and instrumentation using, for example LabVIEW.
  • Full avionics life cycle development experience for real time vehicle application.
  • Familiarity collaborating with FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER's).

Other Considerations:

  • Domestic travel up to 10 % may be required
