Support the design engineering team with design for manufacturing principles through various lenses including composites fabrication, machining, airframe production, assembly, and service.  Additional responsibilities include creating, documenting, developing, and implementing advanced procedures used to assemble, process, test and/or manufacture Bye Aerospace's products. Specific tasks will include design review support, major aircraft component supplier management and support, internal manufacturing process development, ownership and coordination of the aircraft build and integration plan, and assembly to determine time or quality revisions, and suggests improvements.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provides / develops a set of Best Manufacturing Practices to the engineering department to guide component and assembly design.
  • Analyzes engineering design of parts and assemblies to determine manufacturability of components, assemblies, and tooling.
  • Determines manufacturing processes and tooling methodology; improving overall processes including process development, scheduling, creating process documentation, product assembly, and production processing, problem solving, and program management.
  • Design manufacturing aids and equipment such as jigs, fixtures, molds, ETC.
  • Work with Design engineering in the creation of manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) to break engineering product structure into logical manufacturing methodology and sequence to enable MRP processes for order release, scheduling, and purchased component sourcing activities
  • Creates process plans, work centers and value stream mapping for manufacturing
  • Review supplier' fixed process and routers for completement and conformance
  • Work with Industrial and Design engineers to design plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Identifies, justifies, and implements new technology and manufacturing techniques to improve safety/ergonomics, reduce manufacturing cost (labor, material, inventory, scrap), and improve product/process quality
  • Evaluates vendor proposals for new equipment purchases
  • Works under minimal supervision and may act as a mentor to other Manufacturing Engineers


Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience supporting the design, assembly, and production of FAA Certified aircraft
  • 8+ years of aircraft related experience in manufacturing or maintenance environment
  • Previous aircraft manufacturing or maintenance documentation experience required
  • Proficient in MS office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Advanced experience with PDM software (Team Center Preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of Bill of Materials and order cycle
  • In depth knowledge of composites fabrication, manufacturing of metallic components, and production line assembly of aircraft or similar products.
  • Fully competent in interpretation of drawings in a Model Based Design (MBD) environment.
  • Experience with ERP and MRP solutions
  • Demonstrated proficiency of SAE, ASTM, and other industry standards
  • Experience in production quality systems including MRB
  • Proficient user of Solid Modeling CAD in support of designing fixtures and tooling for manufacturing
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology Degree


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Hands on experience with some or all the following skill sets:
    • Metal fabrication
    • Machining and assembly of metallic components
    • Fabrication and assembly of composite components
    • Electrical system installation and troubleshooting
  • Experience using Siemens PLM/NX CAD/Team Center in a manufacturing environment
  • Private Pilot License
